What’s holding you back? What do you need to let go of? The old way? The old process? The old title, office space, or retirement contribution formula? Before you can move forward you need to get yourself out of the mud of the old reality.
The next change is coming. That much is guaranteed. The New Reality explains that there is a change process . . . that each employee is accountable to move through that process, search for solutions and create better outcomes for the customer. But none of that can occur until people let go of their old reality.
Phrases like: “This too shall pass,” “I’ll wait until it blows over,” “This won’t affect me,” “I can keep doing my job the way I always have” shout denial. You can’t move into the future until you let go of the past. Denial is like being stuck in the mud, spinning your tires, yet believing you’re driving down a sunny road.
New Reality Tips for Getting Out of Denial:
- Write a list of all the things you need to let go of – anything slowing you down or holding you back
- Make a conscious effort to read that list 2 times every day, once at the beginning of the day and once at the end
- Do this for 30 days and you’ll be out of the mud of denial and into the sunshine of possibility
