Let’s get one thing straight: There is no such thing as job security anymore. You know this, right? And, all of your employees and associates know it, too, right? Right? Though the concept of job security may be gone, the good news is that it’s has been replaced with something else — employment security.
And, who’s in charge of your employment security? You are!
Employment security is a personal responsibility. You alone have the ability to increase it. Your ability and willingness to move yourself through the change more quickly and effectively make you more employable, whether that’s where you are currently working or somewhere else.
The burden of employment security must be shifted off the organizations shoulders of the and put right where it belongs — squarely on your shoulders.
Keep in mind that it’s today’s performance — and tomorrows — that counts most. Are you working on the qualities, skills, and behaviors necessary to bring value to your customers in the next 12 months? Understanding the difference between employment security and job security is a good place to start.
